Captain John Cregan has 21 years of law enforcement experience and serves as a Captain with the Santa Rosa Police Department in the beautiful wine country of Sonoma County. Captain Cregan has held a wide variety of assignments to include: Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Motorcycle Officer, Firearms Instructor, Hostage Negotiator, Gang Crimes Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Gang Crimes Team Sergeant, Patrol Watch Commander, Investigations Bureau Lieutenant, Professional Standards Lieutenant, and Law Enforcement Emergency Manager.
Captain Cregan currently manages the Field Services Division which includes the Patrol Bureau, Traffic Bureau, Downtown Enforcement Team, Community Service Officers, Field Evidence Technicians, S.W.A.T. Team, and the Hostage Negotiations Team.
Captain Cregan serves on the Board of Directors for the National Alliance on Mental Illness and is passionate about creating long term solutions to help police officers better serve those suffering from mental illness in our communities.
Captain Cregan holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a master’s degree in Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership. Captain Cregan is a graduate of Class #66 of the California P.O.S.T. Command College.
